The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side.

How often throughout our lives can we relate to buying into this phrase? Particularly in this day and age where our culture is submerged in social media that always shows the good times but rarely the bad. The events of this past summer have challenged me in more mays than one. Particularly in the arena of embracing my story as it’s written, not as I would have hoped it would be written. Loosing our baby has rocked my world and it continues to shake the steady ground I thought I once walked on. Our human tendency is to take control and to convince ourselves that we know best. But the truth that the Lord has been speaking to my heart, is that He has been writing my story from the beginning of time and He continues to be in control of it. My story is perfect, it’s beautiful and it’s timeless because the Lord of all the earth, the One who created me and stitched me together in my own mother’s womb is the one who wrote it. My story is my own and there’s no other story out there like it.

Jimmy & I made this sign together before we even knew we were pregnant. We have it hanging up in our bedroom, and as I read the words in these present days it continues to challenge me and remind me that the grass is not greener on the other side but IT IS GREENER WHERE YOU WATER IT. In life we have two choices. When things get hard and when curveballs are thrown our way we can fight for control and dwell on the fact that we wish it was different. Or we can embrace our perfectly “imperfect” story and find goodness even in our hardships. That doesn’t mean we won’t struggle, it doesn’t mean there won’t be many days of tears and frustrations but it does mean that we fight twice as hard to find new joys each and every morning. It means that when those lies arise that tell us our story isn’t good enough or isn’t “right” we pray in the name of Jesus truths over our heart and our minds. It means that we acknowledge that God is the author and perfecter and that as Ecclesiastes 3:11 states “He has made everything beautiful in its time.”

So friends, if today you are faced with that curveball I challenge you with this question…. Are you going to fight for control and dwell on the fact that you wish your circumstances could be different? Or are you going to press into embracing your perfect story and finding goodness in your hardships?

YOUR story is perfect. YOUR story is unique. YOUR story is beautiful. The Lord has written YOUR story just for YOU.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord.”
